Richard will cycle for Orange Babies in 2024

Van 10 tot 18 maart fiets ik met mijn zoon (Richard) voor Orange Babies de legendarische tour in Zuid-Afrika. Al 12 jaar organiseert Irene (mijn vrouw) de Orange Babies fietstours met heel veel passie en toewijding. Dit jaar doe ik voor de derde keer mee en spring op de fiets voor Orange Babies. Het doel van de tour is om zo veel mogelijk geld bij elkaar te fietsen om zo de projecten in Zuid-Afrika te kunnen ondersteunen. 

We fietsen 40-80 KM per dag, gaan camperen, slapen in lokale lodges en bezoeken projecten. Mijn doel is dat we zo veel mogelijk kinderen met een gevulde maag naar school krijgen, sexuele voorlichting op scholen realiseren, genoeg medicijnen ter beschikking stellen. Hier zijn de champions heel belangrijk voor: een groep van 20 adolescenten. Zij zijn ervaringsdeskundigen omdat ze zelf een positief leven leiden met hiv of bewust zijn van hun kwetsbaarheid ten opzichte van de ziekte. Zij zetten hun kennis en ervaring in om andere jongeren te begeleiden. Dit gebeurt op verschillende - voor jongeren aansprekende - manieren, bijvoorbeeld via Social media, theater of poëzie op scholen, buurthuizen en markten.

Between March 10 to 18, I will cycle the legendary tour in South Africa with my son (Richard) for Orange Babies. Irene (my wife) has been organizing the Orange Babies bicycle tours for 12 years with a lot of passion and dedication. This year, I am participating for the third time and jumping on my bike for Orange Babies. The aim of the tour is to raise as much money as possible to support their projects.

We cycle 40-80 KM per day, go camping, sleep in local lodges and visit projects. My goal is that we get as many children as possible to school with a full stomach, implement sex education in schools, and make enough medicines available. The champions are very important for this: a group of 20 adolescents. They are experts by experience because they lead a positive life with HIV or are aware of their vulnerability to the disease. They use their knowledge and experience to guide other young people. This happens in various ways that appeal to young people, for example via social media, theater or poetry at schools, community centers and markets.
